Flower Mound Named #1 place to Live in Texas By Forbes Magazine

Flower Mound has become a prime relocation place according to Forbes Magazines "America's 25 Best Places to Move" List.  It ranks Flower Mound as the best place in Texas and 6th best country wide among towns with more than 25,000 people.

Flower Mound Crime Rate Falls

The Flower Mound Police Department reported a 3 percent drop in the town’s crime rate from last year.  The decrease follows a 12 percent drop between 2007-08.

The department attributes the decrease to a variety of factors, such as the purchase of more technologically-advanced equipment, the implementation of the Citizen Volunteer Patrol program and the addition of more police officers.

The town also released a report indicating a drop in response time. Priority I calls, which are calls for critical incidents in progress, decreased by an average of 12 seconds (4 minutes, 20 seconds to 4:08). Priority II calls, which are calls for incidents that have not yet occurred, such as a domestic violence call where there has been no violence, decreased by an average of 15 seconds (5:02 to 4:47).

FLower Mound to Build New Fire Station

Chris Roark Flower Mound Leader -

Plans for a new fire station in town cleared its final hurdle Monday as the Flower Mound Town Council voted, 4-0, to approve a site plan for the facility.

Fire Station No. 4, which is expected to be 10,240 square feet, will be located at 4601 Bridlewood Blvd.

Fire Chief Eric Metzger said ground could be broken by January.

Efforts for the new station began in 1992 when the council approved an ordinance to provide a fire station within the planned development. The issue was placed on a capital improvement plan and finally made its way to the forefront three years ago during a workshop.

“Bridlewood and Wellington have grown now to where we have a substantial number of rooftops to protect,” Metzger previously said in the Leader. “So it’s essential to provide a place where we can have sufficient response times.”

Flower Mound Code Red System

The Town of Flower Mound recently instituted the CodeRED Emergency Notification System – a high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows the Town to telephone targeted areas of Flower Mound in the case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action.  This system will only be used for emergency purposes and incidents where rapid and accurate notification is essential for life safety.

Local School Tax Reduction in Flower Mound, Texas

Virtually all area school district tax rates have dropped their tax rates approximately 20% for 2007 with the new House Bill 1 that is now law in Texas.  There is no more "Robin Hood" and all school districts are essentially the same in their operations and maintenance tax.  The tax rate for Lewisville Independent School District which includes Flower Mound Schools was reduced from $1.77 per hundred 2 years ago to $1.37 per hundred this year.  Hundreds of thousands of homeowners will have significant tax reductions this year across the state.
